Antique beds are often small by modern standards and need to be stretched to be comfortable.
Antique beds are often small by modern standards and need to be stretched to be comfortable.
This is our latest bed stretch project. It is going to be beautiful when complete.
The bed was a nice 3/4 size with short rails. We added a little over twelve inches in width and new eighty inch rails for a standard queen size 60 x 80.

Another look at this great project.
One more great shot!
A wonderful antique family heirloom that is not being used because it is narrow and short.
Family heirloom returned to usable standard queen with transparent modifications repaired and refinished as new ... only better!
Oak full size antique bed.
Modified bed expanded to king.
When the bedroom suit that these beds came from was manufactured the mores of society were such that couples slept in twin beds. To have a wonderful vanity, low boy, and high boy dressers and not have a functional standard king or queen bed made the whole set a waste.
Here is the project in process.
Finished project.
